A Little Bit About Me
I grew up in Lihue, Hawaii, on the island of Kauai. I was a boarder student at Kamehameha Kapalama High School. There, I participated in soccer, cross-country, and track and field. Alongside the student-athlete experience, my hobbies include going to the beach, hiking, and spending time with my family and friends. Before attending Oregon Tech, my academic interests have always been to pursue my learning in health sciences. My ultimate goal is to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Imaging and continue a career as a Vascular Technologist.
Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major
I chose to attend Oregon Tech because of its tight knit community, intimate learning within the programs, unique degree studies, and having the opportunity to be part of the women's soccer program. The Medical Imaging Technology programs are what stood out the most to me, as I strive to become a Vascular Technologist. At Oregon Tech, I have the chance to be a student-athlete at a preferable-sized school.
My Influential Professors
During my first year, I have been through three different Human Anatomy and Physiology professors at Oregon Tech. All three of them (McVay, Elliot, McClure) have provided quality learning throughout the rigorous course. My experience learning under these professors has helped motivate me to want to pursue a career in the medical field. I deeply appreciate the guidance these professors continue to lend us, and I could not have asked for anything more as a first-year student.
My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech
My greatest learning experience at Oregon Tech so far would have to be taking Human Anatomy and Physiology. The three-stage biology course has allowed me to gradually increase my knowledge of the human body, both in a lecture setting and a lab setting. I think it's very exciting when we get to study on cadavers and to physically see parts of our anatomy that we don't normally see externally.
My Plans After Graduation
After I graduate from Oregon Tech, I hope to use my Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging and pursue a career as a Vascular Technologist. I would like to work back home in Hawaii, but I am also open to other opportunities along the west coast in the U.S. My ultimate goal is to give back to my community and to those who have guided me throughout my journey.
