A Little Bit About Me

I am a 21 year old from Mount Shasta, CA. I grew up there but visit Germany often since I am half-German with dual citizenship. I love the outdoors and enjoy mountain biking. I also like building with Legos, 3D modeling, cars, and product design. My most recent hobbies are abandoned mine exploring and motorcycling. I am very involved with Oregon Tech and am the Vice President of the Makerspaces. I am also an active member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity at Oregon Tech and was up until recently the ASOIT Vice President. I am currently wrapping up my first MECOP internship at Boeing Portland, where I have been working as an NC Programmer, programming 5 axis bore-mill CNC machines.

Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major

Why I chose Oregon Tech: 1. I chose Oregon Tech because I like Polytechnic schools for their hands-on approach. 2. I wanted a school that participated in the Formula SAE competitions. 3. A small school fits me well; the biggest class I had in high school was less than 20 students. 4. It is a 1.5 hr drive from my parents' house. 5. I can use Reciprocity to get in-state tuition despite being from CA. Why I chose my major: Mechanical is definitely my style, especially considering my love for solid modeling, design, and cars. I chose MET over ME because MET has less math classes and more manufacturing electives.

My Influential Professors

My influential professors are Ben Bunting, Jim Fischer, Sean Sloan, Irena Demeshko, Clifford Stover, and Kevin Brown. These are all of the professors who I learned the most from. They all did a good job and I like to differentiate them from the rest of the professors. Ben Bunting was always excited to teach and made me excited about a topic that I am usually not interested in at all. I also still remember a lot from that class despite it being my first term. Jim Fischer explained calculus in a way that made perfect sense to me. I got near perfect scores in all three calculus classes with him, and I hear that lots of other students fail calculus several times. Sean Sloan is super fun and has so much knowledge on thermodynamics and fluid dynamics. He cuts out all the busywork and teaches us what we will actually use. Irena Demeshko did an amazing job at teaching Statics and Strengths of Materials. It seemed super simple with her, and I actually use what she taught in real life occasionally. Clifford Stover has so much technical knowledge when it comes to manufacturing and machine design. I learn so much useful knowledge from him and his stories. Lastly Kevin Brown. Rather than explain it twice, I'll explain why in the next section.

My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech

My greatest learning experience at Oregon Tech has been the Small Groups and Team Communication class with Kevin Brown that I mentioned in the previous section. He is my favorite professor and made the class really, really fun and interesting. I learned so much in his class and bonded with him like no other professor at Oregon Tech. I think it's because he tries to minimize the power jump from students to professors and treats us all as equals. The class was really easy in terms of workload, but I learned more than I learn in most classes. He spent the first 10-40 minutes of class just having an open conversation about anything with us at the beginning of every class and he played group games with us all the time. I looked forward to going to this class every time.

My Plans After Graduation

I still have one more 6-month MECOP internship before I graduate. I don't know where it will be yet, but I might work for Boeing or the next company. Another option would be to get a master's degree in Germany after I graduate. Master's programs are taught in English there and I can live there since I am a German Citizen. I would get a degree in Automotive Design or something similar most likely. I like cars and would love to work for a race team or other type of motorsports. A large company like Mercedes, Audi, or Porsche would also be a dream job for me. As long as I get to use 3D design tools and do a little hands-on work as well, I will be happy.
