Kevin Hines survived jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. Few live to tell that tale. Hines will tell his story at Oregon Institute of Technology on Tuesday, April 24 at 2:00 p.m. in the Oregon Tech College Union’s Mt. Mazama Room. Hines is a nationally known speaker on suicide prevention. The presentation is free and open to the public.
Kevin Hines is not a licensed clinician and does not provide medical or psychiatric services. His goal is to spread a message of how through dedication and hard work, and following a treatment plan prescribed by licensed doctors, a person can change their life and live a mentally healthy life.
Hines has spoken to over 300,000 people and has stated, “I believe it is my life’s work to reach out to all communities and speak up and speak often about my battle with Bipolar Disorder. It is my goal to help those suffering find help and commit to some form of effective treatment plan. I want to help give everyone the ability to find hope for their future. Suicide is never the solution to any problem.”
Hines has been featured in the critically acclaimed film “The Bridge,” and has appeared on Larry King Live, 20/20, Anderson Cooper 360, Good Morning America, and many other national and international print, radio, film, and television media outlets. He has written several newspaper articles about the prevention of suicide and mental health.
Hines has just finished writing his memoir The Wounded Healer: Chronicles of a Psychotic Mind along with a handbook titled Living Mentally Well: A Pro-Sumer’s Guide to Great Mental Health.
“Our goal is to reach out to students, faculty, staff, and the community to inform them about this timely event highlighting an alarming issue in society. This event will help all of us spot the warning signs and learn how to help someone in their hour of greatest need,” commented Jane Rider, Director of Campus Life at Oregon Tech. “Suicide is a national issue. This is a difficult topic, but an important one, especially on a college campus.”
