Governor’s State Employee Food Drive
April 10, 2013, Klamath Falls, Ore. – Oregon Tech employees rallied together to achieve an outstanding $7,846.45 or 1,480 pounds of food donated! Oregon Tech employee payroll contributions alone amounted for $6,232.
The “Race to End Hunger” is a month-long effort endorsed by the Governor's office to encourage state employee participation to end hunger for more of our citizens. This is the second year that Oregon Tech employees have ranked number three in terms of pounds of food per employee with last year amounting to 118.36 pounds per employee. In 2012 OSU and Western Oregon University achieved 145.15 and 161.31 pounds per employee respectively.
“Donations of money are probably the most appreciated. For every dollar donated, the local food bank can yield about 12 pounds of food to those in need. Even the smallest of donations is appreciated and goes a long way toward feeding the hungry in our community,” commented Vicky Seger, Chair of the “Hustlin’ Against Hunger” Food Drive and Benefits Officer for Oregon Tech.
The need in the Basin is great. The Klamath/Lake Food Bank provided food to nearly one in four households in the area last year. The Food Bank is currently distributing 33,000 pounds of food every week.  In 2011, Food was provided for nearly 10,000 children in Klamath and Lake Counties. The State of Oregon remains among the top three hungriest states in the nation. Approximately 25 percent of households in Klamath and Lake Counties had difficulty providing enough food for their families.
