On paper, it’s difficult to believe Dr. Mateo Aboy is less than 40 years old. In addition to multiple degrees in a variety of disciplines from universities such as University of London, Aboy is a Registered Patent Agent and the Associate Provost and Vice President for Research at Oregon Tech (OIT). To that list of accomplishments, the Portland Business Journal has added another gracious accolade by naming Aboy to its annual list of top executives under forty years of age.
At 32, Dr. Aboy’s degrees and honors include a BS and MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a PhD in Electrical Engineering. He has received an Executive Certificate in Management & Leadership at MIT, a Professional Certificate in Sustainability and Energy Storage at Stanford, and an MBA in International Management at the University of London, as well as Bar Admission to practice patent law before the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a Registered Patent Agent.
“Dr. Aboy is a remarkably accomplished, multitalented individual, to say the least. We’re delighted to have him as one of the guiding forces of Oregon Tech,” says the school’s President, Chris Maples. “We’re extremely proud that Mateo has been acknowledged for his achievements.” Aboy has been with the school since 2004.
In addition to his position as Associate Provost, Dr. Aboy is a full Professor with tenure in the Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy (EERE) department at Oregon Tech’s new Wilsonville campus. Prior to his current appointment he served as the Department Chair of Electrical Engineering & Renewable Energy. Aboy additionally has been associated with the PhD Program in Signal Theory at ETSIT-University of Vigo (Spain, EU) and the MS/PhD program in Biomedical Engineering at Oregon Health & Science University.
The Portland Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” award recognizes those individuals who have had a massive impact on the Portland area—but who have yet to cross the 40-year mark. The publication’s editorial department selects the winner from the list of nominees. This year, The Portland Business Journal received nearly 300 nominations for the esteemed honor.
