May 28, 2013, KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech earned the 47th spot among the “Top 50 Affordable Colleges with High Returns” for 2013 in a report by AffordableCollegesOnline.

Oregon Tech followed Oregon State University for providing Oregon graduates the most affordable experience with high returns for education. Oregon Tech was selected from 875 other public and private institutions meeting the criteria of a degree granting, fully accredited school with four-year tuition less than $40,000.

The university is no stranger to accolades. Oregon Tech was recently ranked among the top 6 percent of return on investment for a college education by the Seattle-based compensation data company PayScale.

“We are very pleased to receive this level of national recognition for the accomplishments of our faculty, staff, students, and alumni,” said Dr. Chris Maples, Oregon Tech president. “We take our undergraduate-focused polytechnic mission seriously and employers know that a potential employee with a degree from Oregon Tech has had the hands-on education to immediately start in their position.”

AffordableCollegesOnline takes a four-pronged approach to managing college costs. They aim to educate so that potential students are aware of their options for obtaining a degree and, most importantly, for paying for one. Data are compiled from highly respected sources, including the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). In addition, as an extension of the federally provided data sets, they use the Carnegie Classification, which provides additional levels of detail unique to the Carnegie Classification system. Finally, AffordableCollegesOnline access Payscale data, which leverages surveys from hundreds of thousands of people (employees, employers, job seekers) from the public and private sectors, regarding salary information by school and occupational field at various points in a career lifecycle.
