Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) was one of only five colleges in the nation recently awarded a Fluke Grant from the Fluke Corporation. The Fluke Corporation is the leader in portable electronic test and measurement technology. Fluke will present each college with a grant of industrial process test gear tool kits for use in classrooms.

Each school will receive a $14,500 kit of 12 Fluke test tools, for teaching students to diagnose and repair sophisticated industrial process control systems. Each kit includes Fluke 719 Pressure Calibrators, three Fluke 773 Milliamp Process Clamp Meters, three award-winning Fluke 289 True-RMS Industrial Logging Multimeters with TrendCapture and three Fluke 381 Remote Display True-RMS AC/DC Clamp Meters with iFlex™.

“We appreciate this grant award from Fluke Corporation and their recognition of our Renewable Energy Engineering program. Frank Rytkonen, the faculty member who submitted the grant, will be using the kits to enhance the education of our REE students,” commented Charlie Jones, dean of the College of Engineering at OIT.

A significant number of institutions applied for the grants. The winning institutions were OIT, Portland Campus; Greenville Technical College in South Carolina; Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York; Montana Electrical JATC in Helena, Montana; and Sanderson Technical College in Sanderson, Georgia.

The Fluke award committee judged applications based on these factors:

  • Instructional program content
  • Program impact (numbers of students and certificates or degrees conferred)
  • Program quality (accreditation)
  • How test tools will be incorporated into the teaching program
  • Willingness to provide feedback and comments on their experience with the products
