Oregon Institute of Technology introduced a new 18-credit Minor in Sustainability, open to all undergraduate students.
The undergraduate minor in Sustainability allows students to explore the challenges of sustainability and to think about how to develop solutions to pressing issues at the local, regional, and global scale. The minor is intended to draw from and supplement any major in the university.
Sustainability has as its core goal the development of systems of human behavior that enable both current and future generations to maintain a quality of life that is both productive and pleasing. To achieve such a goal requires an interdisciplinary approach to answer the complex issues that challenge our ability to develop sustainable systems now and in the future.
Students in the minor will understand how the decisions they make as consumers, workers, resource owners, citizens and policymakers affect human welfare in this and future generations. Students also will be able to articulate why some environmental, social and economic profiles are sustainable and others are not.
Students can be advised on the minor or declare the minor through an advisor in the advising department of their major. If the student is pursuing concurrent degrees, they should go to an advisor in the department of the degree they first selected.

The Department of Natural Sciences prepares students for challenging, rewarding careers in health, biological, and environmental sciences. The department also provides courses in biology, chemistry, and physics in support of degrees in nursing, medical imaging, dental hygiene, respiratory care, management, and engineering programs.
