The trees are turning colors, the temperatures are cooler, and college students are returning to campuses across the nation. Fall is in the air. Classes commence at Oregon Institute of Technology and at Klamath Community College (KCC) on Monday, September 26th. To honor those who chose to pursue higher education in the area, the week of September 25 through October 2, 2011 will be the “Week of the College Student” in Klamath County and within the City of Klamath Falls.
The proclamation for “Week of the College Student” was read aloud by Al Switzer, Chair of the Klamath County Board of Commissioners, on Tuesday, September 13th, at the Klamath County Board of Commissioners Meeting in Klamath Falls. Switzer invited students in attendance from both institutions to come forward as he read the proclamation. Councilwoman Cheryl Hukill and councilman Dennis Linthicum congratulated the students on their achievements and extended their appreciation to the students for their service-minded citizenship, making Klamath Falls a richer, more diverse community.
The City of Klamath Falls also officially proclaimed the week to be “Week of the College Student” at the Monday, September 19th City Council Meeting. Klamath Falls Mayor, Todd Kellstrom, read the proclamation to the audience and congratulated Oregon Tech and KCC students in attendance for selecting such fine institutions to further their education.
“It’s a great honor as a student and as president of the Associated Students of Oregon Institute of Technology (ASOIT) that Klamath Falls Mayor Todd Kellstrom and the Klamath Falls City Council as well as the Klamath County Board of Commissioners designate a week to recognize and honor college students from Oregon Tech and Klamath Community College,” commented Daniel Helmricks, a geomatics student at Oregon Tech and president of the student government.
This is the fourth year for “Week of the College Student” in the Klamath Falls area.
