Advocate Responsibilities
As an Advocate, you help spread the word to your Oregon Tech community about Giving Tuesday through social media and/or email. We encourage you to offer your gift as a match or challenge to help inspire your peers to give. At the end of Giving Tuesday, we ask that you thank those who participated via email and social media.
How To Get Started
Oregon Tech uses the GiveCampus social fundraising platform for Giving Tuesday. We ask that Advocates create an account through GiveCampus so that we’re able to effectively track the impact of your outreach efforts. With an account, you can seamlessly share messaging via social media, view how many times someone clicked on the link, and see how many people made a gift.
Here is how to get started:
Step 1: Sign Up
Go to https://give.oit.edu/giving-tuesday-2024/advocacy and click on ‘Sign Up’ in the top section of the page. If you already have an account, please move on to step 3.
Step 2: Create an Account
It is not recommended to use Facebook to sign up. Please create an account using your email on file with Oregon Tech, and if you do not have one, you can use your personal email. Once you have created an account, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to activate your account and complete the sign-up process.
Step 3: Create a Match or Challenge
Now that you’ve logged into GiveCampus, you can create a matching gift or challenge. See Creating a Match and Creating a Challenge below for more information.
Step 4: Spread the Word
Once you have an account, you are able to share via Facebook, X, and LinkedIn. You are also able to create and upload a personal video. See Advocacy and Social Media Resources below for more information on what you could share.
How to Create a Gift Match or Challenge
Inspire your Oregon Tech community by creating a matching gift or challenge.
What is the difference between a match and a challenge?
Matches and challenges work differently:
- Matches provide funds as donations come in. For example, someone might match $20 for each donor up to $400.
- Challenges require reaching a specific goal to unlock the funds, like a donor giving $1,000 if 100 people donate.
Both can be limited to certain designations (e.g. a specific fund, student group, scholarship), or to certain groups of people (e.g. graduates of 1987).
When setting up your match or challenge, we encourage you to give your entire gift, regardless of whether the terms of your match or challenge are met. Otherwise, we may not receive your gift at all.
Creating a Match
- Click on the ‘Offer a Matching Gift’ button on your advocate dashboard page.
- Enter the maximum amount you would like to match (e.g., up to $200).
- Select if you want to still give the full amount even if your match is not completely met.
- Next, choose if you would like to make a ‘per donor’ or ‘per dollar’ match.
- You have the option to select an affiliation, class year, or list of friends that your match is intended for. For example, you can choose an affiliation group such as ‘alumni,’ a class year, or specific individuals by email. If you want to offer it to all donors, select “All donors to Giving Tuesday 2024”
- You have the option to select a designation, if you want to offer your match to a specific fund, student group, scholarship, etc. If you want to match whichever designation someone donates to, you can leave this selection blank.
- Enter any additional information and your payment information.
- Once the day arrives, encourage your Oregon Tech community to join you in supporting Giving Tuesday!
Creating a Challenge
- Click on the ‘Offer a Challenge’ button on your advocate dashboard page.
- Enter the maximum amount you would like to donate if the challenge is met (e.g., up to $200).
- Next, choose your milestone: dollars or donors.
- Select if you want to still give the full amount even if your match is not completely met.
