Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major
I chose to attend Oregon Tech because of their DMS program. Oregon Tech is one of the best schools for students who wish to pursue a degree in ultrasound. The program provides hands-on experiences gearing students to be ready for externship and their future jobs ahead. I decided to go into sonography when my sister had an emergency ultrasound. Being able to view her organs through a screen was fascinating to me.
My Influential Professors
Throughout my studies at Oregon Tech, Professor Bobbi Kowash has definitely been the most influential to me. I value how she is so passionate about teaching and wants her students to succeed. She comes to lecture with a smile on her face and it sets a good tone for the rest of my day. The one thing that I look forward to is her “bucket of GRIT” every Wednesday. She has her students write positive messages on notecards and throughout the week she’ll post them on the wall outside the DMS lab.
My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech
One of the greatest learning experiences that I have gained at Oregon Tech is developing the skills of good time management. As a junior in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, coursework has been a challenge yet a great opportunity for me to learn to use my time efficiently and effectively. I found the more I focus on my studies, the easier it is to comprehend the information and maintain good grades.
My Plans After Graduation
After graduating with my Bachelor in Diagnostic Medical Sonography I plan on moving back to my hometown, Hilo, Hawaii, or working at the medical center that I will be going to for my 11-month externship. Hawaii has a special place in my heart, but ultimately, I would like to return home since the majority of my family resides in Hilo. However, going away and living in a different state would be good for me too!
