System Analyst
Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology - Business/Systems Analyst Option is the choice for students interested in a career in technology that works closely with the business management to craft the best technological solutions for the business. This program has a strong business component while providing practical, hands-on technology instruction on database programming and design, computer networks and object-oriented application programming. Business and systems analysts specialize in understanding business problems and the solutions provided in computer related technologies. Analyst are key employees and typically get salaries at the high end of the Professional IT scale.
What is Information Technology?
Information technology covers an ever growing variety of job descriptions which range from technicians to administrators to technology managers. Categories of job descriptions typically used to describe IT positions include:
- Systems/Business/Programmer Analyst
- Database design and administration
- Information systems specialist
- Local area network and network communications
- Systems analyst
- Customer support
The IT field is rapidly expanding to cover most of those jobs descriptions that involve the use of computers to capture, manage and communicate key organizational data. This option of the IT program focuses more attention to business and information systems management.
Nature of Work
Information Systems (IS) comprehend how data is captured, stored, turned into information and then passed along to workers who need it. As an analyst you will most likely be employed in medium to large companies and you will be highly regarded as important contributors to the path IS takes within the organization. You will look at business practices and the problems that go along with them. You will then analyze and design solutions to solve those problems. To do well in this field you will need a high degree of critical thinking skills and the ability to communicate and collaborate with a variety of managers and engineers. Salaries in this field typically range from $44K to $78K depending on experience.
