FAQs
What are Oregon Tech's transfer requirements?
Students with a 2.25 grade point average (GPA) in 36 quarter (24 semester) hours of transferable college work are normally eligible for admission to OIT, provided space is available in your desired major. We highly recommend, however, that you maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA and that the coursework you are transferring includes college-level English composition and algebra.
Be sure to have an official transcript from every college you have attended sent directly to the Admissions Office. If you graduated from high school in or after 1997, you also must provide copies of your official high-school transcripts for evaluation, unless you have completed two or more terms of college-level coursework in a second language at an accredited institution.
If you have less than 36 quarter hours of transferable college-level credit, you will need to submit an official high-school transcript or GED and test scores (SAT or ACT) for evaluation. You also must meet OIT's requirements for freshman admission and high-school core requirements.
How do I apply for admission?
You can complete and print an application from our website http://www.oit.edu/apply or call our Portland office at (503) 821-1250 to request a printed version. Oregon Tech offers rolling admissions throughout the year, but you should observe our priority deadlines if you plan to apply for financial aid and scholarships (Feb. 1). Once we have received all of the items on the checklist, the Admissions Office will determine the total number of transferable college credits, your cumulative GPA in the transferable work, and which general-education requirements you have fulfilled. If the evaluation of your college transcripts shows that you have less than 36 hours of transferable work, you will be asked to send transcripts and test scores.
What if I’m a PCC transfer student or plan to attend the Portland Campus and take some courses at PCC?
You can complete the dual admit application for PCC/OIT. You will find the application at our website http://www.oit.edu/portland/admission/apply Print/Complete and mail to: OIT East Campus 7726 SE Harmony Road, Portland OR 97222 or fax to 503-786-5040. It is recommended that you see an advisor to help you plan your path to an OIT degree. Please call 503-821-1250 or 503-821-1275 to make an advisor appointment.
Can I pay my application fee with a credit card?
OIT Portland is unable to accommodate a credit card transaction. We will however take a check or money order for your application fee.
What if I applied to OIT and was admitted but decided to start later than I expected?
OIT would need to update you're your start term in order to keep your file open. The re-enroll and update form can be found at our website http://www.oit.edu/portland/admission/apply Print/Complete and mail to: OIT East Campus 7726 SE Harmony Road, Portland OR 97222 or fax to 503-786-5040. This form also applies to students who plan to enroll after not taking any courses at OIT for one year.
Do I need to provide standardized test scores?
You do not need to submit SAT or ACT scores for transfer admission unless you have completed fewer than 36 hours of transferable college credit and/or graduated from high school within the past five years.
Will all my college credits count?
A Transfer Evaluation Report acknowledging the courses accepted by Oregon Tech will be sent after your admission status has been confirmed. Vocational or technical courses may also be accepted, if your major department determines that they satisfy particular bachelor's degree requirements. In all cases, course and/or department prerequisites will be enforced. As a general rule, only credits from regionally accredited institutions can be accepted.
What if I already have an associate's degree?
Transfer students with associate's degrees will be granted junior standing for registration purposes, but may still be required to take prerequisites and remedial courses before taking upper-division courses.
Is financial aid available to transfer students? What about scholarships?
All students, including transfers, enrolled at least half time (6 units per quarter) are eligible for financial aid. To apply for federal and state aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and list OIT's school code (003211). The priority deadline for filing your FAFSA is Feb. 1. Students who file after that date are still eligible for aid, but will find that most of the funds have been expended.
