Paramedic Education Program

Current News

Summer is here!  Students are beginning internships around the country, as well as, studying for their national certification exams.  We are busy preparing for graduation and our next cohort which begins in September.  At this time, there are no openings available in our 2009-2010 class but you're welcome to contact us for information regarding alternate positions.  The priority application period for our 2010-2011 class begins January 1st, 2010.  We offer advising and information sessions throughout the year which we highly recommended if you are interested in applying.

Welcome

The Paramedic Education Program is a partnership program between Oregon Health & Science University and Oregon Institute of Technology. Students invest 12-months studying the art and science of being a paramedic while in our program. After graduating, students are eligible for state and national certification exams.

This rigorous educational offering supports our mission of educating future leaders in the field of out-of-hospital medical care. Our reputation began in 1977, and continues today, built upon years of educating dynamic, thinking, paramedics.

Advising Sessions are Available

As stated previously, we strongly encourage scheduling an advising session if you would like more information about paramedic education or are interested in applying.   Courses taken for entry into other EMS and medical programs may not fulfill the same requirements for the OHSU-OIT Paramedic Program.  A transcript review can help you avoid taking unnecessary classes, determine which requirements you have completed, and create a course completion plan.  You can submit your transcripts for review through email or you may bring them to your advising session.

We are also available to conduct group information sessions within the local NW region.  Please contact us if your agency or school would like brochures and information packets.

Biography

I am the OHSU-OIT Paramedic Education Program (PEP) advisor and representative.  I have a variety of roles from advising, to overseeing the application process, to administering budget reports.  My educational background in is adult education and communication which has led me to the front lines of the Paramedic Program.  While I was working towards my degrees at Portland State University I taught public speaking and was a gradaute mentor for the University Studies Program.  Learning about the EMS system in Oregon, as well as, paramedicine in general, I've come to realize what a truly amazing program this is.
