Advising

Be Prepared for what’s ahead

At OIT Portland, our advising services are a foundational tool that extends well beyond the classroom. It teaches students to be responsible for their own education, to constantly analyze and evaluate their learning process, as well as set long-term goals and achieve them. Our services include:

  1. Developmental advising: Develop student goals and objectives, and encourage student growth.
  2. Academic advising: Course sequencing, registration, long-term course plans.
  3. Personal advising: Support, identify and help students at risk with academic as well as personal advising.
  4. Recruiting advising: Contact and advise prospective students, conduct tours and provide career guidance.

Our faculty members, who also serve as our academic advisors, help students excel—both in academics and in life. They provide guidance, support and encouragement by using developmental methods that promote maximum academic, personal and career development. They help students discover and access support services on campus for an easy transition into the rigors of academic life. Through these partnerships, students are able to build upon their strengths and make life-long goals.

Advising is a crucial part of the admission process at OIT Portland. Since most of our programs are degree completion programs, we encourage prospective students to come in for an advising appointment before they apply so we can assess transfer credits. This appointment will also allow you to meet OIT faculty members and staff who will be assisting you throughout your education.

To schedule an advising appointment please call (503) 821-1250 or email us at portland@oit.edu

If you have already scheduled your advising appointment with OIT Portland, please complete the Advising Information Form. At the bottom of the form, you will be prompted to attach your unofficial transcripts. Please complete before your appointment.
