Oregon Institute of Technology and Eagle Ridge High School are excited and honored by the opportunity to host the first ever FIRST ® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition (FRC) kickoff event to be held in Southern Oregon on Saturday, January 4, 2014 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Klamath Falls campus of Oregon Tech. Sponsors also include Klamath Basin Robotics Team and Oregon Tech Robotics Club.

The FRC Kickoff marks the beginning of the design and build season. Teams from Klamath Falls, Bend, and Ashland have the opportunity to meet and compare notes, get ideas, make friends, find mentoring teams, learn the game, and get geared up for the exciting competition season!

The 2014 season will include an estimated 2,800 teams (nearly 56,000 high-school students) participating in Regional and District events. All teams, grades 9-12, will be shown the 2014 robotics game field and challenge for the first time and will receive an exciting, new Kit of Parts made up of motors, batteries, a control system, and a mix of automation components – but no instructions. Teams will have six weeks to design and build robots to meet this year’s engineering challenge.

In addition to what is done at a typical event where participants watch the NASA kickoff video streamed over the internet and pick up their kits, Oregon Tech is proud to offer an experience that will have a greater impact by exposing the high school students to our college campus, informational sessions about preparing for college and interactive breakout sessions that are directly related to the competition including robotics, component fabrication and computer software engineering. College professors, the admissions team and current Oregon Tech students, some of which are former FRC participants, will be hosting the event and the morning will culminate with the unveiling of a ½ field and the delivery of the 2014 FRC kits for teams will take with them.
