Grants Information The OIT LIbrary is a Cooperating Collection of the Foundation Center ( http://fdncenter.org) and also has a compact disc database from the Foundation Center called FCSearch: The Foundation Center's Database of Grantmakers. As a member of this nationwide network of libraries, community foundations, and other nonprofit agencies, the OIT Library provides visitors with free public access to grantmaker directories, books on fundraising and nonprofit management, and the Foundation Center's electronic database, which includes approximately 50,000 records for philanthropic organizations. The fully searchable database includes detailed profiles of all active U.S. foundations, as well as an extensive file of recent grants awarded by the nation's top funders. This database is for in-library use only and can be accessed through the desktop icons on the library computers. The Foundation Center's cooperating collections housed at OIT is located at a table toward the back of the main Reference area in the library. Books in the Grants collection are cataloged in Hedgehog, the library's online catalog.
Books in the Grants collection are treated as part of the reference collection: they can be used in the library but not checked out. The library also has other books on philanthropy, nonprofit organization management, and funding sources in the main circulating collection. These books may be checked out by OIT students, staff, and faculty, or by registered Community Borrowers.
Most of the funders listed in the Grants collection directories provide grants only to tax-exempt nonprofit organizations. As a rule, neither private nor government grants are available for small business development. The OIT Small Business Development Center may be able to provide information on loans or sources of expertise for small business entrepreneurs. You may also find the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation Grant Database of interest. Data is available here on Mott Foundation grants dating back to 1993. Through these grants the Foundation seeks to fulfill its mission of supporting efforts that promote a just, equitable and sustainable society. Inherent in all Mott Foundation grantmaking is the desire to enhance the capacity of individuals, families or institutions at the local level and beyond, with an emphasis on systemic change. Please be aware that recent grants are more likely to reflect the Foundation's current funding interests and that contact information for some of the older grants may be outdated. |
