Information for OIT Portland Students (excluding CLS & Paramedic students)
Student Health Insurance: $38.00/term
All full-time (enrolled for 6 or more credit hours for Fall, Winter, Spring & Summer terms) OIT students are automatically assessed a Basic Student Health Insurance fee each term ($2,500 benefit plan). Regardless of other insurance coverage, full-time students may not waive this fee. This insurance provides very basic coverage.
You will receive an insurance card. Let the person who is doing your billing (e.g., medical office, partner, or yourself) know that you have this insurance. (If you have other insurance, the basic student health insurance plan will be billed as your primary insurance for the first $250.) Students taking 6 or more credits and wishing to purchase additional coverage may do so.
Another Insurance Option
If you are taking less than 6 credits and wish to have insurance coverage, you must go to Portland State University (PSU) and pay their Student Health Fee. (Please see information below for instructions on how to do this.) They use the same insurance carrier that OIT uses (Aetna). Their Student Health Fee AND Limited Student Health Fee are combined into one fee. By doing this, you will:
o have access to the PSU Student Health Center (medical clinic, dental clinic and counseling services)
o be enrolled in a basic insurance plan. You will also have the option of purchasing a supplemental (major medical) coverage plan. If you would like to purchase more coverage, you can enroll online by going to the Aetna Student Health website. If you do this, please enter Portland State University as your school (since you are enrolling through them). The deadline to sign up for insurance through PSU is the Monday after the first two weeks of each quarter. Please check their website for the exact deadline dates so that you do not miss out on this opportunity.
