What's Spirit Week?
Spirit week is the glorious week-long marathon of blue-and-gold decorating, Hootie-like cheering, and other egregious displays of Oregon Tech pride. All Oregon Tech Students, Faculty, and Staff are encouraged to display copious amounts of school spirit. The week culminates on Friday when voting polls open. One winning team will earn the right to gloat that they are the most school spirited group for an entire year—as told by one shiny trophy for public display.
Spirit week is February 10-14, 2014
This year’s suggested theme: “Owl Always Love My Oregon Tech”
- Form a team. There is no cap on the number of participants to be in each group. Teams compete against all other participating teams, which may include res-hall floors, academic departments, or individuals.
- Register your team name, members, and location at firstname.lastname@example.org by Feb. 12, in order to be included in the voting poll. Teams formed without registering will not be listed in the voting survey.
- Get decorating! Supplies will be provided for all registered members on first-come-first-serve basis. Please visit the Information Desk in the CU on Monday, Feb. 10 for free materials, which include some streamers, paper decorations, and one high-quality promotional item.
- Post photo and make your space visible to the public by Friday. Spirit week is a university-wide effort: Klamath Falls, Wilsonville, Salem, and LaGrande locations will be listed on the voting survey. Teams must use the Oregon Tech Facebook page (www.facebook.com/0regonTech) to post photos of your work. The voting survey link will direct users to reference user-submitted photos on Facebook to help them choose the most school spirited team.
It is the team’s responsibility to buy their supplies for Spirit Week. For Oregon Tech faculty and staff, supervisors are responsible for approving time off during operational hours to decorate. Institutional Funds are not to be allocated to Spirit week, which includes “on-the-clock” personnel hours without approval, office materials that cannot be replaced, or other departmental charges.
Please use blue painters tape for attaching decorations to walls to prevent damage. Teams are responsible for cleaning up their decorations area by Tuesday, Feb 18.
Voting: A survey link will be distributed to campus on the afternoon of Friday, Feb 14, that will list all the team names and their locations. Vote for the team that you feel is best, based off of a combined excellence in Oregon Tech spirit, decorative impact, and creativity. The survey will close at 5pm on Monday, Feb 17.
The winning team will be announced on Tuesday, Feb 18 by a campus-wide email and social media posts. Stay tuned to hear details on the presentation of the trophy.
