Four Owls Named to NFCA All-Region Softball Team

OKLAHOMA CITY – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its 2014 NAIA All-Region squads recently that included seniors Shauna Collins (Roseburg, Ore.), Danielle Sayres (Milwaukie, Ore.) and Cassidy Olson (Anderson, Calif.), along with junior catcher Tori Weatherford (Mt. Shasta, Calif.)

Collins, a four-year starting shortstop for Tech, earned her third-straight NFCA award, while Sayres, Olson and Weatherford were recognized for the first time on the First Team West Region squad.

The Owls quartet was also named to the 2014 Cascade Conference first-team this season, with Collins being recognized as the 2014 CCC Player of the Year.

Collins led the Cascade Collegiate Conference in runs scored (56), and was in the top- 5 in the CCC in hits (63), total bases (88), stolen bases (22) and walks (22). Her 59 runs scored ranked sixth-best in the NAIA. Olson, a utility player, led the Owls with a .408 batting average, including a team-high tying 10 homeruns. Weatherford, Tech’s starting catcher, batted .348 with a team leading 55 RBI to go with 10 homeruns, while Sayres hit at a .388 clip, including 52 hits while roaming center field for the Owls this season.

Oregon Tech wrapped up the 2014 campaign with a 35-14 overall mark, including a 23-5 record in CCC play to earn the regular-season CCC championship. The Owls would move on to the NAIA National Softball Championship for the third time in four seasons where Tech was ranked No. 18 in the final regular-season edition of the Top 25 NAIA Coaches’ Poll.
