(PORTLAND, Ore.) – In a game that was a lot closer then the final score indicate, Oregon Tech escaped with a 3-0 win over Warner Pacific Saturday night at Palermini Stadium. Oregon Tech improves to 3-1 in Cascade Conference play and 5-4 on the season with the victory. The Knights fall to 0-3 in CCC play and 1-8 on the season with the loss.
It was Warner Pacific that started the game on the attack, pressing forward in the first 20 minutes of play for four shots and earning a corner kick. In the 30th minute against the run of play, A.J. Castle gathered a headed ball across the box and shot from six yards to put Oregon Tech ahead 1-0.
Towards the end of the first period, Anna Blakeslee and Roxana Gomez each had clear looks at goal for the Knights but could not find the target.
In the second half, Melanie Johnson doubled the Lady Owl lead in the 59th minute by gaining possession at the top of the box and firing low to the far post.
Warner Pacific pressed forward in search of a goal and ended outshooting the Owls 16-10 on the night, but instead felt how cruel the game of soccer can be. The official awarded Oregon Tech a penalty kick in the 72nd minute, which Hayley Smith calmly converted and provided the final margin of 3-0.
Oregon Tech will host Northwest Christian (3-7-1, 1-5-1 CCC) Friday, October 12 at 1:00 pm at Steen Sports Park.
