(Newberg, Ore.) – Oregon Tech’s Veronica Steward scored the “Golden Goal" just 8 minutes into overtime to lift the visiting Lady Owls past George Fox 1-0 Saturday evening at the Austin Sports Complex. Oregon Tech improves to 1-1 on the season with George Fox falling to 0-1 with today’s result.

Both teams played tough defense over the first 45 minutes as each team only mustered 5 shots on the opposing goal, the Owls with 3 on frame, the Bruins with 2.

The second half started much the same as the first half with each team struggling to get quality looks at the others’ goal.

Momentum slowly switched to Oregon Tech as Hayley Smith and Rebekah Nisbet each had good looks but just missed several opportunities. The Owls dominated play for most of the final 30 minutes but couldn’t find the back of the net as regulation ended with no score.

Overtime would be “Golden Goal” and Oregon Tech wasted no time to end the game as Steward took a Nisbet pass and scored from 15 yards away to give Oregon Tech the win.

Oregon Tech Keeper Rebekah Matteri registered the shut-out facing 9 shots and grabbing 5 saves.

The Lady Owls will next head south to play at Simpson University in Redding, California on Wednesday, September 5th at 5:00 pm.
