(Monmouth, Ore.) – The Oregon Tech women’s soccer team kicked off the 2012 season with a 3-0 loss at Western Oregon University.
Western Oregon wasted no time in getting on the board as Kymberly Witmer took a cross and scored from 17 yards out just 54 seconds into the game.
Oregon Tech Goal Keeper Rebekah Matteri had a busy first half facing 10 shots, 7 of those were on frame, allowing just the one goal. Oregon Tech could only muster 1 shot on goal against the Wolves’ defense.
The Owls came out of the half with more energy and made several good runs but Western Oregon Goal Keeper Kelsey Lindsey was up to the test making several nice stops.
The Wolves made it a 2-0 game when Maya Palaroan took a rebound off Matteri and scored in the back of the net in the 66th minute.
Western didn’t waste any time in putting the game away when Macy Bothman scored in the 67th minute off a rebound right in front of the Oregon Tech goal as the Wolves went on to win 3-0.
The Wolves out-shot the Owls 26-6 for the game.
Matteri was credited with 15 saves on a busy day in the box.
The Lady Owls will try to rebound on Saturday playing at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon at 5:00pm.
