Oregon Tech Announces 2012 Fall Sports Schedule

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Oregon Tech athletic department has announced their upcoming 2012 fall sports schedule for volleyball, cross country and the men’s and women’s soccer teams.

The Owls open their 31-match volleyball slate with the first four matches on the road. Oregon Tech begins the 2012 season at the Paul Elliot Invite hosted by Southern Oregon University in Ashland on August, 17th.  The 2012 campaign begins with Westminster College of the Frontier Conference and then faces Viterbo University, Wisc. and Biola University, along with UC-Merced during the weekend.

Viterbo, from the Midwest Collegiate Conference, turned in a 36-8 record a year ago, while Biola reached the NAIA quarterfinals in 2011, recording an overall 27-13 mark. 

Oregon Tech opens its home schedule with a non-league match versus New Hope Christian on Monday, August 20th at 11 a.m. and will turn around to host Pacific Union College at 5 p.m. that same day.      Cascade Collegiate Conference play kicks-off on the road with a match at rival Southern Oregon University on Wednesday, August 29th, while the Owls host preseason CCC favorite College of Idaho on Friday, September 14th and Eastern Oregon University on Saturday, September 15th to open their conference home schedule.

The Tech men’s soccer team, and first year head coach Matt Munhall, will look to improve on a 5-11-1 overall mark when they open the 2012 season.  The Owls begin the campaign with the first six games on the road beginning with NCAA III opponents Linfield College on Friday, August 31st and at George Fox on Saturday, September 1st.  Two of the final three games of the six-game stand are conference affairs, beginning with Northwest University on Friday, September 14th and at The Evergreen State College the following day.  Tech opens the 2012 home schedule with a conference game versus Warner Pacific College on Wednesday, September 19th at 6 p.m. All home games will be played at the Steen Sports Complex.

The Oregon Tech women’s soccer team is coming off a 5-9-1 overall mark and 3-6-0 record in Cascade Collegiate Conference play in 2011.   First year Head Coach Mike Hedlund will lead the Owl women into the 2012 campaign with six of their first nine games on the road. Tech will open at NCAA II Western Oregon University on Friday, August 31st and then face NCAA III George Fox University the following day in

Newberg, Ore.  Tech will open their home slate with a non-conference contest with Trinity Lutheran at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 17th before beginning Cascade Collegiate Conference action at home versus Northwest University and The Evergreen State College on September 28th and 29th.  All home games will be played at the Steen Sports Complex.

The 2012 cross country teams will host Northwest Christian University on Saturday, September 15th at the Steen Sports Complex as the Owls run at home for the first time since the 2010 season. Tech’s seven meet schedule begins on Saturday, September 8th in Sacramento at the Hornet Invitational and will close out the year at the Cascade Collegiate Conference championship in Portland on November 3rd.  The NAIA national cross country meet will be held at Fort Vancouver Park in Vancouver, Wash. on Saturday, November 17th.
