2009-10 Outlook

 

Oregon Tech first year head coach Scott Meredith welcomes 7 players back from last year's squad (14-16 overall, 7-13 league).

Returning senior guards Lisa Busch (Lane CC), Kellie Morey (Clackamas CC), Nicole Morgan (Lane CC) and Kelsey New (Clackamas CC) will provide leadership and experience for the 2009-2010 Lady Owls.

Junior forward Kaleo Renstrom (Mtn. View HS) returns, as does junior forward Brittany Cherry (Columbia Basin College) after sitting out the 2008-09 season with injury. Returning sophomores include post Aundrea Albright (Crater HS) and guard Morgan Hofman (Mtn. View HS). Also returning to the team is junior post Crystal Idrogo.

Newcomers to the Lady Owls include juniors Jazzy McDaniel (post, Siskiyous), Lauren Yehle (guard, Shasta JC), and freshmen Colleen Hunt (guard, Silver Lake HS), Katelyn Page (post, Grant Union HS) and Jennifer Saltenberger (forward, Mazama HS).

11.19.2009 - Lady Owls Knock Off Redhawks 70-54

REDDING, Calif. - The Oregon Tech women's basketball team beat Simpson University 70-54 limiting the Redhawks to just 18 first half points. Tech improved to 3-4 on the season winning its second in a row. Simpson drops to 0-8 with the loss.

The Lady Owls held a 38-18 lead at the half as Kelsey New (Winston, OR) had 11 of her 13 points in the first half. Five of those eleven came on one play as she hit a three point shot and was fouled as the ball made its way through the hoop. The official ruled that the foul came after the bucket, New hit both free throws to convert the rare 5 point play.

Simpson came out of the break on fire hitting three consecutive three point shots to start the half on a 9-0 run. Tech answered with back-to-back buckets to push the lead to 16 but Simpson came firing back and trimmed the Tech lead to 9 points hitting two more three balls with just over 11 minutes to play. Simpson hit 7 of 12 long balls in half.

The Lady Owls stayed focused and kept feeding the ball to Brittany Cherry (Pasco, WA) and Jazzy McDaniel (Alameda, CA) in the block as the two combined for 28 points and 21 rebounds. McDaniel finished with 10 points and a team high 15 rebounds both career highs. Cherry also finished with a career high 18 points.

Oregon Tech out rebounded the Redhawks 43-21.

The Lady Owls shot 48% from the floor on 25 of 52 for the game including 5-13 from long distance. Simpson was held to 32% from the floor, hitting on19 of 60 shots and 8 of 19 from long range.

The Lady Owls will travel to Newberg, Oregon to take on the Defending NCAA Division III National Champions George Fox University starting at 3pm. The game will be broadcast on 960 KLAD-AM in Klamath Falls, Oregon and anywhere in the world at www.oitsports.com.

11.15.2009 - Lady Owls Hammer No. 26 Holy Names

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Playing their third game in as many days, the Oregon Tech Lady Owls showed much stamina, taking down No. 26 ranked Holy Names University tonight at Danny Miles Court by the final score of 86-60.

The Owls shot 48.6% from the field on 23-of-47 shooting, including 11-for-23 from long range, while holding HNU to 23-of-66 from the floor and only 34.8%. The Owls held a 45-to-30 edge on the boards and were once again superb from the free thro line, hitting on 29-for-33, to help preserve the win.

The Lady Owls improve to 2-4 overall with HNU dropping to 2-3 on the season.

Four Owls finished the night in double figures with Kellie Morey leading Tech with a game-high 19 points. Morey added four rebounds and three assists in the win. Lisa Busch netted 17 points to go with four rebounds. Brittany Cherry knocked in 13 points, seven of those coming from the charity stripe, and grabbed seven rebounds. Nicole Morgan added 10 points, while Crystal Idrogo, Kelsey New and Jazzy McDaniel finished with eight points each. McDaniel finished the night grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds and blocked four HNU shots.

For the Hawks, Whitney Blackburn notched 14 points, followed by Lesley Vodiscka with seven. Blackburn and Suman Bains grabbed a team-high six boards.

Holy Names strolled out to an early 10-4 lead before Tech was able to find their legs.

An Owl 16-3 run, capped by a Brittany Cherry jumper, gave Tech a comfortable 20-13 advantage. A Lisa Busch 3-pointer gave the Owls their first double-digit lead, 31-20, with 5:08 to play in the first period. Tech held the double-digit lead for the remainder of the half, eventually leading by as many as 15 points on a Morgan Hofman trey with 29 ticks on the clock. HNU hit a jumper to close out the scoring in the half, as Tech took a 42-29 lead to the locker room.

The Owls jumped up to their first lead of 20 points or more at 63-42 with 12:22 remaining to play. The Owls would not let the Hawks close to within 18 points, as Oregon Tech would roll to the final score of 86-60.

The Owls travel to Redding, Calif. on Thursday, November 19th for a re-match of the season opener against Simpson University. Tech won the first contest over SU, 82-59.
