PORTLAND, Ore. --- After a wake-up call Friday night, the Oregon Tech volleyball team ran past Warner Pacific tonight, winning in three straight sets 25-17, 25-13, 25-10. The Hustlin' Owls improve to 14-3 overall and remain on top of the league standings at 9-1. The Knights drop to 5-7 and 3-7 in conference play.
The hot-hitting Owls proved to be too much for the Knights, connecting for a .429 attack percentage for the game and steadily increasing as the match went on, moving from .321 in the first set to .500 in the third. Krista Wooley had a game-high 11 kills for the Owls, while Megan Christensen and Nicole Andrews each added nine kills for OIT and Krystie Vea added a game-high 11 digs for Oregon Tech.
After falling behind 16-10 midway through the first set, the Knights managed to cut the lead to 20-16 before the Owls pulled away for the 25-17 win. Set two followed a similar pattern, with the Knights staying close in the early going until the Owls rattled off 8 of 10 points midway though to go ahead 20-10 on their way to at 25-13 win in set two. The third set was a forgettable one for the Knights as Oregon Tech took an early 7-2 lead and never looked back as they cruised to the 25-10 win.
The Owls return to action at home on October 10th and 11th when they face Evergreen State and Northwest University. Both matches will begin for 7:00 PM.
10.03.2008 - Owls Narrowly Escape Thunderdome with Win
Portland, Ore. - Cascade College proved to the Owls that no team in the conference should be taken lightly, as the Owls got all they could handle escaping the Thunderdome with a five set win 3-2 (16-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 15-13). Tech maintains a hold on first place in the conference standings at 8-1 and sit at 13-3 overall. CC drops to 1-8 in the conference standings and are 5-10 on the season.
Megan Christensen (So. Klamath Falls, OR) led the Owl attack with a team high 16 kills, and followed close behind with 15 kills and four digs was senior outside hitter Krista Wooley (Reedsport, OR). Krystie Vea (Jr. Honolulu, HI) led Tech with 15 digs with Sarah Svedin (Fr. Palmer, AK) gathering nine. Setter Lizzie Law (Sr. Kennewick, WA) tallied 26 assists while freshman setter, Jackie Polette (Helena, MT), getting her first extended playing time of the season totaled 17.
The Owls (13-3, 8-1) will return to action on Saturday, October 4th when they face the Knights of Warner Pacific in Portland at 7:00 PM.
