BOTHELL, Wash. – No. 19 Oregon Tech clinched the 2014 CCC regular season championship on Saturday as the Owls took two games from Northwest University this afternoon, 3-2 and 5-1. With the sweep OIT improved to 32-10 on the season and wins the CCC Championship with a 23-5 record and will host the 2014 CCC Tournament presented by U.S. Bank starting Thursday at the OIT Softball Complex in Klamath Falls, Ore. Note: The higher seed will be designated home team for the entire tournament. Winner of the Tournament earns the CCC automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
Game 1 – Tech out-hit the Eagles 11-3 but left 11 base runners as the Owls couldn’t capitalize on many scoring opportunities. OIT led 2-0 heading into the bottom of the 5th inning but NU took advantage of a walk a hit batter and a double by Katelyne Riedinger to tie the game at 2.
OIT took the lead back in the 6th on 2-hits and an Eagle error highlighted by a McKenzie Shrum RBI single.
Cassidy Olson picked up her 11th win of the season for the Owls and Rylee Carleton pitched the final 2-innings to pick up her 3rd save of the year.
Shauna Collins led the Owls with 3-hits in the win with Tre Sullivan and Danielle Sayers adding 2-hits each in the win.
Game 2 – Oregon Tech led the entire way taking a 4-0 lead after 4 innings of play. The 3rd inning proved to be a key one for OIT as Danielle Sayres singled with one out. Tri Weatherford then stepped up with a triple to left field scoring Sayres. Tre Sullivan then singled driving in Weatherford to put OIT up 4-0.
NU scored a run in the 5th inning as Brittany Bovard and Ciara Sandell led off with base hits for the Eagles. After Ricki Tacdol walked to load the bases, Sarah Payne hit a 2 out single to left field scoring Bovard. Jessi Duncan then pitched herself out of the jam getting a strikeout to end the inning. Tech scored again in the 6th inning when Kayla Prock singled to center scoring Cassidy Olson who had doubled to get on base.
Jessi Duncan earned the win for OIT (32-10, 23-5 CCC), pitching a 5-hitter, striking out 5 and giving up only 2 walks in 6 innings of work. Kierston Perry took the loss for Northwest U (2-32, 2-26 CCC).
The Owls were led offensively by Sayers and Olson with 2-hits each in the win.
