San Francisco, Calif. – Oregon Tech, gearing up toward the Cascade Conference championships, qualified 13 track and field athletes on Day one of the 2014 Distance Carnival at Cox Stadium on the campus of San Francisco State University. On the women’s side for Tech, Mary Matchett and Samantha Lindauer turned in CCC qualifying time in the 1500. Matchett ran a 4:51.34 followed by Lindauer in 4:59.9. Both were top 10 times in their section.
Sara Howard and Elisa Stolz qualified in the steeplechase with Howard crossing in 11:58.39 and Stolz in 12:35.42. The race was won in 10:35.91.
The trio of Scott Minor, Ben Schulz and Kirby Garlitz finished the 10K within a minute and 20 second span in a race with over 75 participants and won by Julian Florez of Adams State in 29:41.39. Minor finished in 32:22.7 with Schulz and Garlitz in 33:15.15 and 33:43.99 respectively.
Jack Roberts qualified in the 1500 meter race in 4:02.43, while Connor Deveroex (1:56.56) and Miles Taylor (1:56.58) came in with qualifying marks in the 800 meter race. Eric Sandall of S. Utah won the event in 1:50.10.
The field events in the discus, shot put, and javelin, along with the sprints, hurdles and relays kick off Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m.
