REDDING, Calif. – Oregon Tech was limited to just one run in each of today’s games versus Simpson University, as the Owls fell 2-1, 9-1 in non-conference softball action today at the Field of Dreams.
Game 1 – The Owls fell behind when Simpson plated a pair of runs in their half of the third inning. Tech pitcher Cassidy Olson suffered the unfortunate loss after giving up just two hits and no earned runs in her complete-game effort.
Oregon Tech struck for their first run in their last at-bat in the seventh, but with runners on first and third with two outs, a ground out to short ended the game.
Tre Sullivan singled up the middle to open the inning moving to second on a passed ball. A ground out sent Sullivan to third, while an ensuing ground out left Sullivan on third with two outs. Cassidy Hoglund next doubled, her second hit of the game, to make it 2-1, while Danielle Sayres recorded her second single of the game to put Owls on first and third. The game would end on a ground out to shortstop.
Game 2 – Trailing 3-0, Oregon Tech made it 3-1 with a single run in the top of the fifth. Simpson, however, struck for six runs in their half of the fifth, eventually sweeping Tech with the 9-1 win.
Shauna Collins led off the fifth with double with McKenzie Shrum advancing Collins to third on a sacrifice bunt. Tori Weatherford doubled in Collins but was stranded after back-to-back fly outs.
Shrum and Tre Sullivan finished with one hit each in game 2 with Cassidy Hoglund and Danielle Sayres finishing the game with two hits each. Hoglund doubled and drove in Tech’s lone run.
Oregon Tech versus William Jessup, a doubleheader scheduled for Monday in Redding, was cancelled due to the chance of rain in Redding tomorrow. The Owls next take on Menlo College and Antelope Valley this Friday and Saturday in Atherton, Calif.
