CALDWELL, Idaho – Trailing by just four points at the half, a 16-2 College of Idaho run early in the second half broke open a four-point game, as Oregon Tech’s season ended in the Cascade Conference semifinal round to third-ranked C of I, 77-57, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center tonight in Caldwell.
C of I will host Northwest Christian in the CCC championship game on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Both teams will advance to the NAIA Division II national tournament in Point Lookout, Mo.
Oregon Tech (17-15) took the early lead on a pair of Josh Johnson free throws and a Brandon Bautista jumper.
C of I’s Sydney Donaldson drained a 3-pointer with 16:23 remaining in the first half as the Yotes moved up 7-4 and led throughout.
C of I remained in control, leading by double digits, 36-26, before the Owls closed out the remaining two minutes of the opening period on an 8-2 run. Tanner Manselle connected on one of his two triples of the half to ignite it, while Austen Flint closed out the half on a jumper, as the Owls went into the break trailing just 38-34.
Trailing by the same margin early in the second period, 41-37, the Owls connected on just one made field goal over the next five minutes, with C of I making 8-of-8 free throws and added two treys to open the game up with a 16-2 run.
The Owls never recovered falling by the 77-57 final.
Oregon Tech shot just 34-percent on the night, including just 3-of-23 from three-point range. Tanner Manselle led the Owls with 12 points on 5-of-10 from the floor. Derek Evans added eight points with Brandon Bautista, in just 13 minutes of action, came away with seven points in the loss. Josh Johnson grabbed a team-high nine rebounds with Austen Flint handing out a game-high six assists.
