HAYWARD, Calif. – Oregon Tech took a 3-2 lead in game 2 of today’s doubleheader versus Cal State East Bay but was unable to hang on as the Pioneers tallied three runs in their half of the sixth inning to sweep the Owls , 5-0 and 5-3, in Tech’s season opener Saturday at Pioneer Field.
Game 1 - Tyson Dahl finished 3-for-4 at the plate, including a double, with Domonic Morris, Aaron Bocchi and Colton Minton adding a hit each but the Owls could not push across a run losing 5-0. BJ Wilson suffered the loss in the opener surrendering four earned runs on eight hits while walking five Pioneer hitters.
Sean Becker recorded the win for CSEB allowing five hits in seven innings.
The Pioneers scored three runs in the fourth inning and added singles runs in the fifth and sixth to post the 5-0 win.
Game 2 – CSEB opened up with two runs in the first before Tech scored their first run of the season, unearned, in the fifth inning, to trail 2-1. In the sixth inning Aaron Bocchi led off with a single, followed by a double from Ryan Hayden, to put runners at second and third. Tech would tie the contest on an Ethan Schlecht ground out and next took a 3-2 lead on a Spencer Reed sacrifice fly.
The Owls, however, couldn’t hold the lead as the Pioneers answered with a three run sixth and held on for the 5-3 win.
Bocchi and Hayden would account for Tech’s only hits in the game, while Austin Taylor went 5.1 innings giving up three earned runs and six hits in the loss.
Oregon Tech (0-2) will play a single nine-inning game versus Cal State East Bay on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m.
