LA GRANDE, Ore. – Katherine Hood's first goal of the season came at the right time for Eastern Oregon University. Hood's goal was the game-winning-goal gaving the Mountaineers a, 1-0, victory over Oregon Tech on Saturday afternoon. The shutout is the fifth shutout of the season for EOU, second most in program history for one season.

Oregon Tech had the best scoring chance in the first half of the contest. EOU's (6-2-1, 2-2 CCC) goalkeeper, Kailey Moss, came out of goal to play a ball. However, Moss misread the ball and Oregon Tech's (4-7-1, 1-3 CCC) Kayla Campbell had a shot at an open net but missed wide.

The match went scoreless into halftime.

Both teams had scoring chances in the second half of the contests but both Moss and Oregon Tech's Rebekah Matteri recorded save after save to keep the game scoreless.

The Owls had the best scoring chance with just over 15 minutes to go in the contest. Alisha Miyashiro controlled the ball about 15 feet in front of the goal. She fired a shot that was out of the reach of Moss' hands but hit the cross bar and the Mountaineers cleared the ball to keep the game scoreless.

Eight minutes later EOU broke the scoreless tie. Shelby Tucker fired a crossing to the other side of the box and found Katherine Hood. Hood beat Matteri putting the Mountaineers ahead, 1-0.

Eastern Oregon kept the offensive pressure on after the first goal of the game as Tori Fedora and Tucker fired shots on goal but Matteri recorded the saves. EOU's defense was up to the pressure of keeping Oregon Tech off the scoreboard as EOU recorded its fifth shutout of the season.

The Mountaineers return to action next Thursday when they travel to Olympia, Washington to face the Geoducks of The Evergreen State College at 4 p.m. Oregon Tech hosts Warner Pacific next Thursday at 6 p.m.
