SALEM, Ore. – After taking a week off, both the men’s and women’s cross country teams ran at the 39th Charles Bowles Invitational this morning in Salem with Paul Adams leading the Tech men to a 6th place team finish and Mary Matchett crossing first on the women’s and good for 10th place as a team.  Hosted by Willamette University, there were 20 teams in the men’s Gold division and 19 in the women’s Gold division.

Paul Adams narrowly missed out on individual honors as the sophomore place 2nd overall in the 8K course with a time of 24:19.6.  The time for Adams would also break the Oregon Tech school-record by over 30 seconds, as well as put him in the top 10 in fastest times on the course in over 30 years.   The previous school-mark was also set on the same course by Perry Custance at 24:49:49.  University of Victoria’s Ryan Cassidy was top finisher with a time of 24:17.81.

Two other Owls placed in the top 50 with Kirby Galitz (25:38.08) and Jack Roberts (25:51.36) placing 26th and 36th respectively.  With all 12 Tech runners finishing with PR’s, Garlitz now sits at No. 7 and Roberts No. 8 on the all-time list for Tech.  Connor Devereux, Ben Shultz and Todd Delaney are No. 11, No. 14 and No. 21 at Oregon Tech respectively.  There were 201 runners in Oregon Tech’s Gold division.

For the women Mary Matchett led the charge for Tech with a clocking of 19:07.2 in the 5K event.  Matchett placed 40th in the race of 184 competitors.  Also coming in the top 50 were Samantha Lindauer (19:15.8) and Rhonda Costin with a time of 19:28.3.  Matchett now has the seventh-best time at Oregon Tech, with Samantha Lindauer at No. 9, Rhonda Costin at No. 11 and Kelley Coash No. 13 on the all-time Tech record list.  The women’s Gold division was won by University of British Columbia’s Maria Bernard with a 17:23.9 showing.

Both the Tech men and women will next travel to Springfield to compete against Northwest Christian University in a dual meet at Dorris Ranch.
