Why did you choose OIT?

I chose OIT because it was a college that both my wife and I could obtain a degree in the fields that we wanted. She wanted to be a Dental Hygienist and I wanted to be a Mechanical Engineer. My wife and I are both outdoorsy people so the location of OIT, Klamath Falls campus was also a factor. I personally like the rate at which graduates are hired from OIT as well.

What do you like best about your major?

The Mechanical Engineering program at OIT has been great, the staff is second to none and a lot of them have worked in industry so they know what is going on out in the real world. I can’t say enough about the staff in my major, they make it possible.

What clubs or activities are you involved with?

I have worked a lot while my wife and I attended school, but I did manage to play a little intramural softball.

What career do you hope to have after you graduate from OIT?

Actually, I have already obtained a job provided I pass all my classes this term; I will be working on a farm in North East Oregon as a manager and irrigation supervisor. It sounds odd for a Mechanical Engineer but I like it and it will pay the bills. An OIT graduate called me with the job offer I might add.

Do you have any advice for incoming students?

Stay focused and don’t lose sight of why you came to OIT. IT may seem like there is no hope your freshman and sophomore years, but by the time you reach your junior and senior years you will realize that there is a job at the end of the tunnel. All you have to do is stay up late, go to bed early, study every weekend and sleep on books.
