Michelle McBride

Alumnus, Class of 2012
Major(s): Geomatics
Hometown: Klamath Falls, Oregon

Why did you choose Oregon Tech?

I chose Oregon Tech because it was local and I didn’t have to move my family to attend school. I appreciate the small class size which allows me to get to know the faculty and my fellow students well.

What do you like best about your major?

I love the technology and mathematics involved. I like the option to work inside or outside. I like the fact that no job is ever like the one before. There are so many different avenues that you can take with surveying.

What clubs or activities are you involved with?

I am a member of Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon student chapter and the state chapter.

What career do you hope to have after you graduate from Oregon Tech?

I plan on running a satellite office locally with Duryea & Associates, a Professional Land Surveying and Mapping firm based out of Spokane, Washington.

Do you have any advice for incoming students?

I would advise new students to become involved in the student chapter immediately and get to know your fellow students including the upperclassmen. Don’t be afraid to go to your professors to ask questions or just to chat. They are willing to help and want you to succeed. I highly recommend attending all surveying conferences. Begin networking from the start!
