Sarah Brooks

Alumna, Class of 2011
Major(s): Civil Engineering

Why did you decide to attend OIT?

I decided to attend OIT after I came and visited the Klamath Falls campus. I liked the size of the campus and the classes. Also, the hands-on approach to learning was a big draw for me. I knew that I would actually be practicing what I would be doing once I graduated.

What is (or was) your favorite class?

My favorite class so far has been Structural Analysis, but I've enjoyed most of my major oriented classes.  I love getting to do all of the labs for my Civil classes.

What career do you hope to have after you graduate from OIT?

Once I graduate from OIT, I'm planning on getting my master's degree and then work as a Structural Engineer. I'm specifically interested in using sustainable materials while maintaining the strength of the structure.

What's the best thing about OIT?

The best thing about OIT is that the students actually interact with the teachers. The teachers know everyone's name and they actually care about the students.

Do you have any advice for new students?

I think that it's really important for new students to join a club or be active in the Residence Hall Association. You get to meet so many people that you wouldn't have otherwise. It's helpful to build connections right from the start. Joining clubs for your specific major is especially helpful, because you get to know people who you can study with.
